Web Assignment#5 Beauty

  • I think beauty in photography is something natural and something you can't take your eyes off. A beauty that only you can view it as.
  • The characteristics of photographic beauty would be that mystery, hidden feeling in a picture. The way it makes people cry, smile etc.
  • Something ugly can definitely be considered beautiful. Technology today gives us ways to change something ugly into something that no one would believe was considered ugly. I also think it's how the photographer views it and how other people see it as well. Not everyone will agree of the way others will view a picture but even then it still has some beauty in it whether it is supposed to be ugly or not.
  • An example to that would be a Black Widow. Most people dislike spiders and consider them ugly. A Black Widow may seem ugly but it has it's beauty and the red on its abdomen which the rest of it's body being black is really cool. The spider on the example picture terrifyingly ugly but the colors on the spider are interesting.

Alfred Stieglitz

1. Who was Alfred Stieglitz and why is he noteworthy in the history of photography?
Alfred Stieglitz was an American photographer and modern art promoter. He introduced many experimental European artists to the United States. He believed in photography as fine art and decided to promote the idea.

2. Choose a photograph he made, upload it to your blog, and explain why you chose it as your favorite by him.
I don't really know why I chose this as my favorite but I liked the snow and since Alfred Stieglitz liked the art in photography, I would say that this is a nice picture and "art" comes through my head when I see it. Well., "snow" comes through my head as well but you get the idea.

3. With what famous painter was he in a relationship? Who was she?  Upload a painting by her that you like.
He was in a relationship with Georgia O'keeffe. She was an American painter and was famous in New York.  She did paintings of flowers and townscapes of New York. Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia began their relationship as acquaintances but it blossomed and it went to a romantic relationship.
